Hormone Balancing Pasta

Could a pasta really balance hormones, boost metabolism, be nutrient rich and still low-calorie??? KELP PASTA my new love.

Hormones have one of the largest effects on your energy, metabolism, weight and even mood. One root cause of hormonal imbalances is found in the thyroid gland, which synthesizes thyroid hormones for the entire body. No small feat.

I recently posted about my diagnosis of hypo-thyroid.  It basically means, I have a low functioning thyroid and it is not producing as many hormones as I would like to feel my best. Wow, I heard back from so many of you going through the same thing, so I figured I would continue to share how I boosted my thyroid through food, movement and meditation.

“Let food be thy medicine” –  First of all, Iodine is an essential trace mineral that is crucial for the thyroid to function properly. Research has shown that a lack of dietary iodine may lead to enlargement of the thyroid gland, lethargy, fatigue, weakness of the immune system, slow metabolism, weight gain and possibly even mental states such as anxiety and depression. Therefore, eating foods rich in iodine ensures the thyroid is able to manage metabolism, detoxification, growth and development.

SEA VEGETABLES: The ocean hosts the largest storehouse of iodine foods, including Kelp, Arame, Hiziki, Kombu, and Wakame. Kelp has the highest amount of iodine of any food on the planet and just one serving offers 4 times the daily minimum requirement. 1 tablespoon of Kelp contains about 2000/mcg of iodine.

*Bonus: a whole bag of kelp noodles (about 4 servings) only has 40 calories.

Try adding my KELP NOODLE RECIPE into your weekly meals every other week to boost your iodine intake. You can also pick up trace minerals that include Iodine at a specialty grocery store or Amazon.com. What are your favorite Kelp Noodle recipes?
